How to Choose the Right Luxury Cruise Line
Oct 1, 2026 · Meridian Advisors
Luxury cruise lines can look alike in glossy photographs, yet the onboard experience varies a great deal. Before comparing prices, we ask clients four questions.
1. How many fellow guests feels right?
Some luxury ships carry fewer than 300 guests, others more than 900. Smaller ships reach smaller harbours and feel more personal; larger luxury ships offer more dining and entertainment choices.
2. What do you want included?
Some fares cover drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi, and even excursions and flights. Others keep the base fare lower and let you add extras. Comparing the total trip cost often changes which line looks like better value.
3. Destination-first or ship-first?
If you want long evenings ashore, choose lines that schedule late departures and overnights. If the ship itself is the destination, prioritise the spa, the suites and the dining.
4. Dress code and atmosphere
Some lines are country-club casual; others still enjoy an elegant evening. Neither is better, but choosing the wrong one can colour the whole voyage.
Your Meridian advisor will shortlist two or three voyages that fit, and explain the differences in plain English.
